Dimmable 120V LED Rope Lights

Plug-in, cuttable LED rope light on 50 ft and 150 ft reels for indoor and outdoor use.

120V LED rope lights are flexible ½-inch tubes lined with LEDs that plug into a standard 120V outlet through a power cord with a built-in rectifier. Our reels come in 50 ft and 150 ft lengths, cut at marked intervals, and most dim from 5% to 100% on a compatible dimmer. They are UV-protected and rated for indoor and outdoor use, in warm white, cool white, moon white and six colors.

What Are 120V LED Rope Lights?

A 120V LED rope light is a run of LEDs sealed inside a flexible, UV-protected ½-inch tube. It has just two connections, power and neutral, so it plugs into a standard 120V outlet through a 2-wire power cord with a built-in rectifier. Because it runs on line voltage, you can light long lengths without worrying about voltage drop.

Our reels come in 50 ft and 150 ft lengths. You can cut them at the factory cut marks to fit a deck, cove or railing, then add connectors, end caps and clips from our rope light accessories. Need a ready-made short length? See 20, 30 and 65 ft rope light kits.

Two specialty options: Flexbrite by American Lighting, and Hybrid-2, a rope/tape hybrid that stays hidden when off.

  • Flexbrite: up to 1 W/ft, 60,000+ hour rated life
  • Hybrid-2: SMD5050 LEDs, 2.3 W/ft, cut every 18"
  • Flexbrite cut every 36" (60" on red, yellow, amber)
  • Hybrid-2 is cULus / cETLu listed

Dimming and Power

Most of our 120V rope lights dim smoothly from 5% to 100% on a dimmer made for LED loads. Here is what to know before you wire it up.

5–100%

Dimming range on Endura, Standard and Flexbrite reels with a compatible LED dimmer or our RLA-450 rectifier and RF remote.

150 ft

Typical maximum run from one power cord. Uncoil the full reel before you plug it in.

450 ft

Possible run with an 8-amp rectifier without voltage drop, per our rope light guidance. Endura ships with an 8-amp rectifier.

IP65

Dust-tight and protected against water spray from any angle. Not submersible.

Where you can cut

cut mark cut mark 30" Endura & 50 ft · 39" Standard 150 ft ½" Cut only at the marks, never while plugged in

Measure the run

Measure each run and round up to the next cut mark. One 150 ft reel can be cut into several runs, each with its own power cord.

Pick a color temperature

Warm white (2700K–3000K) suits homes and patios. Cool white (5000K) gives a crisper, brighter-looking light.

Plan the dimmer

Use a dimmer made for LED loads, or the RLA-450 dimmable rectifier with RF remote. Check the rope's dimming spec.

Outdoors, seal it

IP65 rope handles rain, not submersion. Fit end caps on every run and use heat shrink over outdoor splices.

Yes, most of our 120V LED rope lights dim from 5% to 100%. You need a dimmer that supports LED loads, such as an ELV or LED/CL wall dimmer, or our RLA-450 dimmable rectifier with RF remote. Check each product's "Dimming Capacity" spec before you order.

Use a dimmer rated for LED loads. Our product pages offer the RLA-450 450W dimmable rectifier and RF remote kit, and a Lutron Diva C·L single-pole dimmer. Flexbrite lists ELV or LED/CL dimmers. Whichever you choose, match the dimmer to the Dimming Capacity spec on the rope you buy.

Yes. Our 120V rope lights are rated for indoor and outdoor use and are UV-protected, so they suit patios, decks, railings and pathways. Most are IP65, which means protected against rain and water spray. They are not submersible, so never install them underwater or in pools.

They are water-resistant, not waterproof. An IP65 rating means the rope is dust-tight and protected against water spray from any angle, including rain. It is not rated for submersion. Outdoors, fit end caps on every run and use heat shrink over splice connectors.

Most runs top out at 150 ft from one power connection, which is the length our reels and standard rectifiers are built for. Endura rope uses an 8-amp rectifier; per our rope light guidance, an 8-amp rectifier can run up to 450 ft without voltage drop. Check the spec for your rope.

Yes, but only at the factory cut marks and never while it is plugged in. Cut marks are every 30 inches on Endura and 50 ft reels, every 39 inches on the 150 ft Standard reel, and every 18 inches on Hybrid-2. Cutting anywhere else will kill that section.

A 2-wire rope light has just two connections, power and neutral, running through the tube. That keeps it simple: attach the 2-wire power cord, mount the rope and switch it on. Because it runs on 120V, you can light long lengths without worrying about voltage drop.

Yes. Each reel ships with a 2-wire power cord that plugs into a standard 120V outlet, with the rectifier built into the cord. Uncoil the rope fully before you plug it in: powering it on the spool can damage it, cause a fire and void the warranty.

Very little. Our Standard reels draw 0.8 watts per foot and Endura draws 1.12 watts per foot, so a full 150 ft Standard reel uses about 120 watts. Flexbrite draws up to 1 watt per foot. Older incandescent rope used about 3 watts per foot, per our product specs.

Whites come in warm white (2700K to 3000K), moon white and cool white (5000K). Endura also comes in amber, blue, red, purple, green and orange. With LED rope, the diode itself is colored, so the tube stays clear instead of being tinted.

Endura rope carries our longest warranty: 5 years for indoor use or 3 years for outdoor use. Standard 50 ft and 150 ft reels and Flexbrite carry a 1-year warranty. Uncoil every reel before powering it, because powering it on the spool voids the warranty.

Fix mounting clips every 6 to 12 inches and press the rope in, or slide it into clear mounting channel for a straight, clean line. You can also lay it behind crown molding or wrap it around poles and railings. Connectors, end caps and clips are sold as rope light accessories.
